BRYAN FARHY HAD
A CRAZY IDEA...

While cycling in the FireFlies Alps tour in 2004, I had the idea of starting an American version of the ride. After researching some routes around the country, I decided, in 2006, that I would ride 6 days solo from SF to LA to reconnoiter the general terrain. I quickly realized it was very doable for a group ride.

There was more shoulder than I had thought and plenty of small towns to accommodate a group along the way. As soon as I got home to LA, I reached out to Ben Hampshire and asked if he would be interested in helping organize the ride as the Mill has always been a massive supporter of the Fireflies. He said, yes, straight away and we were off.

Soon after Detchmendy and Erik signed up to make the ride possible. In 2007, there were I think 4 of us and the rest is history as they say. Although, we are not an official 501C or incorporated we do have a Board as such: Bryan Farhy (Founder), Ben Hampshire (President/Co-founder) Philip Detchmendy (VP/Co-founder) Erik Press (Secretary/Co-founder).
