DAY 2 | SANTA CRUZ – BIG SUR 92 MILES
thursday 5th Oct
This is a fairly tough stage with many personalities, but at the end of the long day is a heaven called Big Sur. After 6 years we have finally figured out how to avoid the highways and its called “Strawberry Fields Forever” (you’ll understand that later).
Along the way there is a wake up call that is the climb up to Carmel. We dismount for a bit of lunch at this beautiful coastal hilltop village. Yes, Clint Eastwood was once the Mayor and we are indeed beginning to resemble The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. After Carmel its about 30 miles of rolling, breathtaking PCH coastline as we enter the densely pine forested hamlet of Big Sur. If you haven’t been here before, we urge you do to some reading about this very magical part of California before you ride through it. Here is a great article written by Hunter S. Thompson on Big Sur.
