DAY 3 | BIG SUR - CAYUCOS 86 MILES
Friday 6Th Oct
When people ask us “Are there any hills?” this is one of the days that comes to mind. While this stage is arguably the most classically beautiful PCH section, it is also up and down, up and down for most of the day. You’ll go from sea level to about 800ft for what feels like an eternity before the Big Sur mountain range lets you out onto the marsh - like rolling flatlands that takes us into another famous California surf town.
Outside of town stands the massive Hearst Castle looking down on us from a mountaintop. Citizen Kane was written about William Randolph Hearst and there have been more than a few Fireflies who have been known to whisper “Rosebud…” as they drift off to sleep after this challenging day.
