Monday 9th OCT

This day takes us up and over the San Marcos pass at 3000 feet. It is approximately 7 miles of climbing at 7-9%, making this the single biggest climb on the ride. We discovered the old haunted stagecoach road, so the suffering is a bit more bearable thanks to the beauty of this single lane country road. At the summit sits Cold Springs Tavern - once a stagecoach stop (c.1860). Unfortunately we must pass it up as we descend big sweeping Alpine - like switchbacks into the town of Montecito where we all regroup for lunch.

From here we say hello once again to our friend, The Pacific Ocean, and it’s a fast 30 miles into Ventura along the PCH. Ventura finds us sleeping in a seafront hotel where the Mill boys usually strip off the Lycra and don wetsuits for a bit of surfing at sunset.

That last night we have a riders only group dinner at the local Italian where it’s a few words from everyone and stories about why and who we are riding for.
